Dying hair from medium brown to red?

I'm planning on dying my medium brown hair red soon. I've heard that red hair fades faster than other colors. Is there any way make it last longer? Also, which brand is the most natural looking? Any advice is appreciated:)

I use L'Oreal Paris Feria Power Reds with Multi-Faceted Shimmering Colour High-Intensity. It has a gentle, deep conditioning permanent haircolour gel that comes with it. It also has a mega-dose of new anti-dull shimmer enhancing conditioner for reds and a patented chromatic colourant which is visable even on the darkest hair.

Feria takes reds to high intensity. It is ignited by Colour Booster Technology with pure chromatic colours which send pure colour and multi-faceted shimmer racing through every strand. It is long lasting and will not lose its shimmer.

I would suggest an Auburn Red for you; definately not a Copper Red. My favourite is Blowout Burgundy (R37) which would also be good for you.

I also use the Fructis Fortifing Shampoo with Color Resist and the Fructis Fortifying Cream Conditioner with Color Resist by Garnier to keep the colour from fading so that it stays true.

It does fade faster than other colors. It's also hard to get completely out of your hair if you don't like it.

Red does fade faster because the molecules are smaller. Try Aveda. They make great shampoos and conditioners that deposit small amounts of color in your hair. As to natural color. The art of a natural color is achieved more through mixing the correct combinations and matching them with your skin tone and eye color than it is a brand thing. The brand though can make a difference in how much damage is done.

Best of Luck to you!

I've always had good luck w/ Redken color. (worked in a salon) I think Aveda and Paul Mitchel fade way too fast. Although any red will fade faster than many colors. Are they going to lighten up your hair before applying the red? Sometimes they need to do that to get the color to look "normal" With you having dark hair, this might be the route they take.

Redken also has a product line that is great for red color. It is called Color Extend http://www.redken.com/products/displayBr...

There are many products in this line that you can use....I have used it, and they do help. Just remember, red is the hardest color to keep vibrant!! Have fun, and good luck!!

instead of red why go with an auburn. This color doesn't fade any faster -have used auburn over my brown hair for years and love it. L'oreal is a good one if u are not going to a shop.
