i have had red hair for about 4 years now and i am sick of it. I am going to the salon on saturday and my appointment is only an hour. I want to go from an auburn color to a light brown. Does the color have to be stripped out of my hair? If so is my hour long appointment going to be enough?

Yea, I'd imagine your hair would have to be stripped, and yea, your hour appointment isn't going to be long enough to strip it and dye it, but I wouldn't recommend both being done on the same day anyway
