Is red hair a birth defect?

I'm really serious my friend just told that when you are born with red hair it's actually considered a birth defect??? (I'm sorry if this makes anyone upset)

Is red hair a birth defect?

Not a birth defect but Redheads on the decline. Estimates say that only 4% of the human population carries the red hair gene.

Unless there is some unknown advantage to having red hair, they will eventually disappear. Perhaps not completely, but they will become very, very rare.

It is hard to predict exactly when that will happen, but it will. Maybe not in 2100, but at some point in the future.

Is red hair a birth defect?

Your friend is either messing with you or seriously misinformed.

Red hair is perfectly normal.

Is red hair a birth defect?

Is red hair a birth defect?

No, it's just rare and only shown by people with homozygous recessive genes, but it's not a birth defect.
