How does my friend have red hair and medium colored skin when NO ONE in her (entire) family has red

My friend has red hair with medium colored skin, she is not as sensitive to uv rays as most redheads are, she has a huge family, but no one with red hair, she doesn't know any of her ancestors with red hair, and she is Italian, Polish, and German.

Even her parents don't know how she got those traits. And she is not adopted (she asked) lol.

Sounds like some one was messing around. Get out the DNA kit and find out who is deceiving who.

Ha ha ha. Beacsue of the Milkman!

i have a niece with red hair. her mom is blonde and her dad has brunette hair....i dk how it happens. i used to know, but i forget.

They are called recessive genes - and can go back many generations without distinct characteristics resurfacing

Alternatively you could just have a dodgy milkman in your area.

The only way this could happen is if she received two recessive genes for this trait. Chances are she has blue eyes too. I am guessing that her parents both have blonde hair, meaning they both contributed the recessive genes needed to make this possible. This is kind of a bare bones answer, I know, but it has something to do with the fact that people who have blonde hair have a possibility of having a child with red hair in the circumstances you described. There might be a slight variation in hair color, but chances are it is pretty light brunette or dirty blonde if so.

Both of her parents could have had recessive genes for these that came out when her genetic code was built. There are no real guarantees with genetics, especially with humans who have so many varied skin color, eye color and hair color traits. I'd say some great grandparent, way back when had those traits and she just drew that straw when she was born.

a generation behind her likely has the red hair , some things often skip a generation saranora dnear

Someone must to have had the recessive gene in their body but out of luck it has never showed up
