Has anyone had a baby born with red hair and had the hair color change? If so, how long did it take

My son was born with red hair and my husband and I are both blonde. So we are hoping it will change. He has blonde eyebrows and the roots of his hair appear blonde. I have naturally very light blonde hair and it is so weird for me to have a red haired child. My daughter was born with dark brown curly hair and is now blonde. Her hair never fell out, it just changed over time. It seems like a lot of people are born with darker hair and it turns red, but I haven't heard from anyone who had red hair at birth and then it changed. Thanks for any info.

well im not sure if it will change. but the baby hair could definitely fall out and a lot of times it does grow back in a different color. but red hair can be inherited from generations back. so you might just be stuck with it. congrats on your new baby.

I was born with red hair and when I turned about 5yrs old it changed to blonde. Both of my daughters were born with red hair and the 3yr old now has a dirty blonde color and the 1yr old still have a red/blonde color. My husband has black hair and is Hispanic and I have blonde hair and English.

I was born with bright red hair but by the time I was 2 it was blonde, and it has stayed blonde.

Red hair is a recessive gene. Neither parent has to have red hair to have a child with red hair. I am a red head and neither of my parents are. My brother is also a red head. I have three children, two of them have reddish hair but none of them are truly red heads. My two children with reddish hair were very bald at birth. I was bald too according to my parents. My third child was born with dark hair and it changed to very light blond. When I was in the hospital having my daughter, all the nurses were really excited and hoped that I would have a red headed baby. They said that red headed babies are very special and that they bring good luck. I understand that you want it to change, if it's an ugly rusty red-orange color especially with him being male. But I've always liked my red hair and have gotten lots of compliments on it in my lifetime.

Both my baby girls were born with red hair. (It's on both sides of the family anyway, so I wasn't surprised!)

My oldest girl's hair has now gone to a 'honey blonde' (she's 7), and my youngest girl was born with dark auburn hair and it's turning honey blonde too. (She's almost 1).

My eldest boy was born with red hair and 10 years later it's still red!

(Though he's dyed it black before now!).
